While most entertainers would be honored to take home one BET Hip Hop Award, Lil Wayne is up for a whopping 18!
The announcement was made on BET’s “106 & Park” Thursday morning.
Scheduled to air October 11 at 8 p.m. EST, the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards will be placing artists who’ve collaborated together head-to-head in the same categories.
Both Kanye West and Wayne will go head-to-head for Hustler of the Year, as well as Best Hip-Hop Style, MVP of the Year, Best Live Performance and Lyricist of the Year. Nicki Minaj is in a league of her own—basking in the FeMC spotlight—yet she too, is facing off with Wayne in four of his 18 nominations.
A good number of Wayne’s collaborations have been given the nod, but let’s not count out his solo work. "6 foot 7 foot," the lead single from Tha Carter IV, has already been nominated for Best Club Banger and Track of the Year. The album, which dropped just a week, almost went platinum in its first week of sales by moving more than 964,000 copies.
The true test, however, will be seeing if the fans vote Wayne the Verizon-sponsored viewer’s choice People’s Champ award.
