T.I. showed up on “Chelsea Lately” recently and discussed how he helped Diddy calm down during an altercation at a BET Hip Hop Awards after party.
“I merely took the focus of something negative and brought it to something positive,” he said.
The humble rapper didn’t take much credit for squashing that beef or for talking a suicidal man off a ledge late last year.
“I didn’t really do anything. I just heard there was a gentleman who was up to here with it… I swung by to see if I could be of any assistance,” he said. “I’ve seen him lately. I’ve seen him since I got out, and he’s doing very well.”
That incident took place shortly before T.I. started his second stint in prison—an 11-month sentence—that just ended last month.
During that time, he penned his first novel, Power & Beauty, that’s available now.
“I had lots of time on my hands to utilize, and I had to stay productive,” he said.
“It’s a fictional story about two teenagers. They are forced to be thrust into adult situations… They actually have real-life circumstances to navigate themselves through. Power is being mentored by a gentleman who’s taking him down a path that most teenage boys need to stay away from,” explained T.I., whose real-life mentor was an uncle who had also spent some time behind bars.
T.I. and Chelsea, who referred to the ATL rapper as her ex-boyfriend, joked about his multiple incarcerations.
“It seems like every time I leave here, I’m going to prison. Yet, I keep coming back,” he said.
T.I. teases Chelsea about her relationship with 50 Cent. Watch it.
