Nas has been ordered to fork over some serious stacks to support his estranged wife Kelis and their newborn son, Knight Jones.
Just hours after Kelis gave birth to the baby boy, a judge ruled that Nas has to pay nearly $40,000 a month in child and spousal support. According to the Associated Press, the singer will get $30,471 from the rapper while their son will get $9,027. Court papers show that Nas also has to pay $45,000 for Kelis’ legal fees.
Originally, Nas had only wanted to pay $5,000 a month in child support, arguing that Knight wouldn’t require much since he would only be a newborn. Escobar’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, had also suggested paying Kelis a lump sum of $20,000 until a judge could determine amounts for the requested support.
This is something that Kelis and Nas were scheduled to work out on Tuesday, but she went into labor on Monday. The two are expected in court on September 8 for a hearing to determine if the payment amount of $39,498 a month should be adjusted.
