Duke Ellington’s family wants a liqueur named for the jazz great yanked from shelves.
According to TMZ.com, Duke’s grandson is suing the makers of Duke Ellington XO Cognac, which hit the market in 2006 and retails for $150 per bottle.
The federal suit, filed Wednesday in New York, charges that the cognac’s company "once attempted to negotiate with [the estate] … but no agreement was ever reached between the parties."
Now, the Ellington estate is calling for a stop to sales of Duke Ellington XO Cognac, and it’s seeking all profits earned from liquer.
