Actor Jaleel White believes “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd will be his biggest competition on the new season of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
“Sherri Shepherd has had a lot of time to know that she is going to be a part of this show. She campaigned to be on this show. She’s lobbied to be on this show. She had her T-shirts up ‘Team Sherri,’ before they even announced it,” Jaleel told Rosie O’Donnell.
Sherri has a “very strong lower half. I saw her in the wardrobe room. That’s sturdy down there,” he said.
Jaleel, who’s best known for portraying Steve Urkel on “Family Matters,” admitted that dancing is something outside of his comfort zone, but such risks have seemed to work for him lately.
“I’m a game show host now. I’m dancing. I’m singing on an episode of ‘Psych.’ I write. Everything that I’ve not been comfortable doing has worked out for me in the last 20 months. So, why not give it a shot,” he said.
Jaleel’s mother also influenced his decision to become a part of the series.
“It’s my mother’s favorite show,” he said. “The offer managed to go through my mother before it hit me. They worked with me over the weekend and right now, after having met my partner, I think it’s probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my career.”
Although his real mom watches the show, one of his TV moms will be competing against him for the coveted Mirrorball trophy.
“Gladys Knight played my first TV mom when I was 9 years old on an ABC sitcom,” he said. “I know many of the different cast members. If I had to pick any cycle, looking at the cast now, I would definitely be a part of this cycle.”
