Rihanna confirmed that she is indeed interested in portraying Whitney Houston if the iconic singer’s life story ends up on film.
“That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do because I would want to really pull it off. That’s a huge, huge role,” Rihanna said while promoting her upcoming movie, Battleship.
Rihanna hasn’t had many acting roles yet, and she’s just one of many names that have circulated in relation to portraying Whitney.
The names of Meagan Good, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox and more have been tossed around, and many have expressed an interest.
“Whoever does it has to do a good job,” said Rihanna, who has the benefit of having met Whitney at least once.
“I met her at a Clive Davis party. I love her. She’s one of my big music icons, and I have always looked up to her,” said Rihanna.
“All of her music actually was always played in my house, with Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. It was really inspiring and it made me develop a passion for music, so really she’s partly responsible for me being here in this industry," she said.
Few question whether Rihanna could handle the vocal requirements a Whitney role would demand, but is she a seasoned enough actress? She’s hoping she’ll get more experience in that department, the Associated Press reports.
“I want to try different roles—maybe comedy next, or who knows? I like sarcastic, dry humor. I like movies like Superbad and Pineapple Express,” she said.
