LisaRaye McCoy is finally coming clean about what really happened with Stacey Dash on the "Single Ladies" set.
Before the show debuted last year, there were rumblings that LisaRaye and Stacey got into an argument on set. The incident took place late one night while the cast was shooting a dinner party scene, and the word was Stacey demanded that somebody hand LisaRaye a beatdown.
Initially, the cast denied that any such dust-up ever occurred. Then confessions emerged about a small disagreement that was far less dramatic than had been reported.
In the new issue of Jet, though, LisaRaye broke down what set Stacey off.
"There was a disagreement over a scene. And it really wasn’t with me. It was with the director," LisaRaye explained. "I think it was about 2 or 3 a.m., and we’d been shooting all damn day. Stacey tried to argue with the director about a line and I’m like, ‘Girl, if you don’t say what the director wants you to say…’"
"It wasn’t that serious at first, but it went there," the actress recalled, adding that VH1 saw a great opportunity to hype up the show following the fight. "I just wanted us to move forward. Then the argument took on a life of its own. The show decided to use it for publicity. They just ran with it."
Shortly after season 1 of "Single Ladies" wrapped, Stacey announced her exit from the show. She told fans that she wanted to spend more time with her kids, and working in Atlanta for long stretches of time didn’t allow her to do that.
LisaRaye said she was sad to see her co-star go. "Believe me, I wish things had worked out because I thought Stacey and I were great together," she said. "She was my age and we were working it. It was sex-symbol to sex-symbol. But she didn’t want to be there. I was disappointed about that."
LisaRaye added, "She had some issues. I’m not sure exactly what those issues were. In the end, she and VH1 made a decision."
