Joan Rivers jokes about Whitney Houston’s death

Joan Rivers seems to think that Whitney Houston’s sudden passing is a laughing matter.

The Village Voice reports that in her upcoming book, I Hate Everyone … Starting With Me, the comedian takes a couple of shots at Whitney.

Joan supposedly jokes, “I hate Houston … it’s crawling with bugs. Oh, wait, that’s Whitney Houston; I’m sorry, my bad. (Can I just mention that Whitney looked fabulous at the Grammys? She was in mahogany from head to toe.)”

Whitney passed away on February 11, 2012, the day before the Grammys.

Based on a description from Penguin Books touting the book as an “honest, unabashedly hilarious love letter to the hater in all of us," it seems no one is safe. The publisher hints that Joan’s ripping on "First Ladies, closet cases, hypocrites, Hollywood, feminists and overrated historical figures."

Many Village Voice readers, however, aren’t laughing. "There’s funny tasteless and there’s just tasteless and unfortunately, this joke is in the latter category," one commenter said.

Of course, this is not the first time Joan’s been under scrutiny for making a joke at Whitney’s expense. But Women’s Wear Daily reported that despite her snarky comments, Joan swears she had nothing against the "I Will Always Love You" diva. “Am I sorry (Houston) died? Of course I am, for God’s sake.” Joan said. “If Angelina Jolie died tomorrow, I would still say she was anorexic.”

Just hours after Whitney’s passing, Joan tweeted, "Whitney Houston. What a sad traged[sic]—the end of the life of an incredible talent. RIP to an amazing singer and legend.”
