Vibe is hailing Evelyn Lozada, Chrissy Lampkin, Kandi Burruss and Tamar Braxton as role models in its latest issue.
Remember that "top secret" photo shoot Evelyn was tweeting about earlier this month? Turns out, she was on the set for Vibe‘s Sexy Issue, in which she and the other ladies are being held up as "role models."
Some people who have seen "Basketball Wives," "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," "Love & Hip Hop" or "Braxton Family Values" would be hesitant to call the series’ stars examples to be followed. Reality TV personalities are known for acting out, which results in a little more camera time, and all of the ladies have had their moments.
Tamar is as opinionated as she is animated, and Kandi won’t hesitate to check a castmate. However, it’s the girls from VH1 that get physical. On the season 2 premiere of "Love & Hip Hop" Chrissy knocked cast newbie Kimbella flat on her back for sleeping with a friend’s man.
Still none of them have evoked as much ire as Evelyn. This season alone she’s had some rather explosive run-ins on "Basketball Wives." First, she smacked Jen in the head with her purse at Shaunie O’Neal’s birthday party. And who can forget Evelyn throwing a bottle and a plate at Kenya Bell for allegedly calling her "loose"? That’s not to mention the moment Evelyn came across the table for Jen, who had just been slapped across the face by Evelyn’s assistant Nia Crooks.
As a result, Evelyn’s behavior has inspired one Spelman student to start a petition against "Basketball Wives" and Ev’s spin-off "Ev & Ocho." Similarly, Star Jones has started a coalition against "BBW." The whole thing just makes Evelyn laugh.
"I think she’s going to have to get a whole lot of names. Actually, I like the petition and I like the controversy because I’ve learned controversy is good," said Evelyn, before calling Star a non-muthaf*ckin’ factor. "I think she’s irrelevant. And she’s using our coattails to get relevant again. Nobody gives a f%$k about her."
"Whatever Star Jones is feeling is a little deeper than what she sees. I think she has her own issues," said Chrissy, sticking up for Evelyn.
Kandi pointed out that Star must have had some of her own less-than-ladylike moments over the years. "She may not be violent," Kandi said, "but I’m sure she goes off on people in her day-to-day. I just don’t think it’s fair to block somebody from getting money."
Despite what you may see on TV, Evelyn has confessed that she does feel bad about some of her behavior this season on "Basketball Wives."
"[The bottle incident] was one of those things where I was like, ‘That was wrong,’" said Evelyn, who also expressed that the stars aren’t the only ones affected by their actions. "The producers of the show could have edited that out, but I take full responsibility. I mean, [Kenya] has kids at home."
Evelyn’s own daughter, Shaniece, who has made a few appearances on "BBW," has seen the show, but doesn’t seem to be any worse for wear. "She knows who mom is. And to her, mom is a character on a television show," Evelyn told Vibe. "My daughter knows that side of me because she’s seen both sides. The world hasn’t. But I take full responsibility for everything that I’ve done. It’s all me."
In the spirit of taking ownership of her actions, Evelyn even reached out to Star to chat about the Vibe interview. According to her, they seem to have reached an understanding. "@StarJonesEsq know we’ve discussed my comments 2 @VibeMagazine privately, but want 2 publicly apologize 4 my words," Evelyn tweeted. "Ur an amazing example!"
