Allegations about the box-office smash hit Think Like a Man being banned in France because it lacks racial diversity are not true.
Sony Pictures responded to the circulating rumors with a statement on BET.com, saying, “Think Like a Man was never planned for release in France. Any reports to the contrary are false.”
Rumors began after GlobalVoicesOnline.org published an op-ed article from Writer Fabienne Flessel addressing how this American film plays a critical role in France’s social issues.
Despite the recent success of the film Les Intouchables starring a Black French actor Omar Sy, Fabienne criticizes the French media for showing images that do not reflect the country’s ethnic diversity.
A note from the Facebook page Negro News mentions that although the film is supportive of an all-Black cast, French media supports predominately mixed couples. “The French state has had a sociopolitical strategy which favors interracial relationships rather than valuing communities. In the comedy Think Like A Man the focus is on black couples,” the post reads.
The movie, based off the best selling book by Comedian Steve Harvey, has grossed nearly $100 million in ticket sales and BET.com already reports talk of a sequel.
