If it were up to Shaunie O’Neal, not everyone would be back for another season of "Basketball Wives."
On the season finale, Shaunie indicated that there would be a change coming for the cast; that might be in the form of smaller returning circle. When asked if there is anyone that she’d like to cut from the "Basketball Wives" team, Shaunie didn’t hesitate to answer.
"Three [from Miami]," Shaunie told "The Insider" without specifically naming anyone. "Immediately. No questions asked. Not anything personal, just not where I’m trying to go. Not on the same page. … If I would like this franchise to keep going, yeah, three would have to go."
There were some strong indications on who she might wish to oust from the show. However, Shaunie might be one of those unnamed ladies as she said she would be fine with quitting her starring role.
"I have no problem walking away from that franchise," said Shaunie, who admits that she’s had thoughts of leaving the show before. "Sometimes I sit and I’m just like, ‘I wanna exit stage left immediately.’"
There’s tension among the cast members and that makes Shaunie "very uncomfortable" because she can never be sure when tempers will flare. This season alone people have gotten physical on multiple occasions and others’ altercations have resulted in public shouting matches. Let’s not forget the moment when Evelyn Lozada hurled a bottle and a plate at Kenya Bell. There was no telling when a fight would break out or why.
"When you just don’t know—you have that ‘I don’t know’ feeling—I run from that feeling," said Shaunie. "I had the ‘I don’t know’ feeling going into season 4 and I should have stuck with my gut."
When it comes to ignoring her instincts Shaunie added, "I won’t do it again."
Of course, Shaunie did expect that there would be some minor catfights. "It’s always going to be drama because it’s women together," she said, noting that she never expected for things to get as out of hand as they did on season 4. "I think the level of where it’s going is out of control. It’s out of control, and I do believe that certain ladies realize that."
The "Basketball Wives" creator has not given up hope yet. She thinks there’s time for her team to turn it around before everyone begins shooting season 5. "I think there is hope for this all to get better. I think it starts a lot with the ladies taking responsibility for what they’ve done and changing it."
But the ladies don’t have too long to change because Shaunie is giving them a deadline. If they don’t shape up before Shaunie says "when," they’ll be cut from the team. "I say ‘when’ right before it’s time to sign on the dotted line," said Shaunie. End of summer. Right around August, September."
