Erica Kennedy, the author of Feminista and Bling, has passed away at the age of 42.
Erica’s family issued a statement to TheRoot.com, revealing that Erica died last week in Miami. There’s no word on the cause of her death at this time, but her family said more information on her passing will be available soon.
Erica started her career as a fashion publicist, but she transitioned into writing when she became a special correspondent for the New York Daily News.
In 2004 she satirized hip-hop culture in the novel Bling, which became a New York Times best-seller. She followed it up in 2009 with Feminista.
The author’s family is requesting that donations be made to Groundwork Opportunities or the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in lieu of flowers or cards.
