    Couple: Mya and Dmitry Chaplin

    Dance: Viennese Waltz

Mya’s season got off to an interesting start.

We all know that Mya is a trained dancer, and she’s always been great at choreography for her videos. You’d think with all her experience she would just come in having competition in the bag, right? Not so much according to her!

“I signed up for this thinking, ‘Oh, okay. I have timing. I have musicality. I have a little bit of some dance experience,’” she confessed. “But this is complicated stuff here and it does humble me. It’s a humbling experience.”

Our girl was tripping over feet and bumping into her partner at every turn if she wasn’t having other difficulties. “I’m getting caught on your pants,” Mya yelped during one rehearsal.

But all those little snags didn’t deter Mya from doing her best…even if she did think she looked like “a car accident” waiting to happen.”

Thankfully, she was able to pull all her training together for the Viennese Waltz to Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love.” She and Dmitry really lived up to the vision too as they fluttered across the floor. Mya was so graceful, which was a welcome change from practice.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba loved their Viennese Waltz, complimenting the singer on the lines she struck and the precision of her turns.
“Way to set the bar,” Carrie Ann said. “Mya, that was gorgeous.”

Judge Len Goodman, however, was less than impressed. In fact, we’re pretty sure he hated it! Len is a stickler for the fundamentals of any dance and he said that what Dmitry choreographed for Mya was not a Viennese Waltz—not even the American smooth version of it.

As always, Judge Bruno Tonioli, couldn’t contain himself and launched into an argument with Len before the elder judge had even finished his critique.

“That was artistry,” Bruno shouted. “The girl was magnificent. This is where the show takes off. ‘Dancing With the Stars’ takes off with you.”

But Len shut it down when he told Mya that she’s “a fantastic dancer” before pointing at Dmitry and stating, “You have let her down by not doing a Viennese Waltz!”

In the end, Mya and Dmitry stepped off stage with a score of 21 out of 30 (Len only gave them a 5—harsh!)
