Jennifer Hudson is bringing her talent for acting and singing to NBC’s Broadway drama "Smash"!
The network has announced that J.Hud will be taking on a role that comes naturally to her: a diva!
The "No One Gonna Love You" singer is set to play Broadway super star Veronica Moore.
Jennifer will make her big debut as Veronica, who has at least one Tony Award under her belt, on the season 2 premiere of "Smash." Her entrance will change the lives of Karen (played by Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty).
But Jen’s part will be more than just a quick cameo, as her character Veronica will have a story arc on "Smash." The network wouldn’t give up too many hints about what’s going on with Jen’s storyline, but execs predict big things for her.
"We’re thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to Smash," NBC Chairman of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. "This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson. Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it."
Executive producer Steven Spielberg believes that Jen is well-equipped to play Veronica given her own background.
"First Dreamgirls, now ‘Smash.’ I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC," Steven gushed. "It’s wonderful to be reunited with her at DreamWorks Television and NBC."
