His Twitter handle remains @Ochocinco, but the NFL player who just wed reality star Evelyn Lozada is officially Chad Johnson again.
“I’m refocused and locked in. Time to get back to the old me,” Chad told ESPN, explaining that “Ochocinco” will serve as his middle name.
“Ochocinco is still in me,” he said.
In 2008, the wide receiver legally changed his last name to “Ochocinco,” which was a nod to his jersey number as a member of the New England Patriots. That move made it possible for his nickname to appear on his NFL gear.
Chad has since been signed to the Miami Dolphins and has been photographed in a team jersey emblazoned with the number. However, whether or not he sticks to being No. 85 has little to do with the name change.
“I’m just doing it for the marriage. It has nothing to do with football,” Chad clarified.
Evelyn, who stars in the VH1 series “Basketball Wives,” and Chad wed on July 4, and it didn’t take her long to tweet that she was now going by “Mrs. Johnson.”
Since she’s taking her husband’s last name, it only makes sense that Chad revert to his original moniker.
The two are set to star in a VH1 reality series of their own in September. The tentative name for the series is “Ev & Ocho.” So far, there’s no word from VH1 on whether the name of the show will change.
One thing that hasn’t changed is Chad’s No. 1 fan who tweeted that she couldn’t care less what he’s called.
“’Johnson’ ‘Ochocinco’ ‘Johnson’ always my ‘Chaddie.’ What’s in a name? Love ya to death!!!” tweeted Paula Johnson, Chad’s mother.
