Jordin Sparks recently recounted some of the most valuable lessons she learned from her Sparkle co-star, the late Whitney Houston.
“I could say one thing that I learned most from Whitney—I think I would say—not to be ashamed or afraid to talk about your past and things that have happened,” she told VH1 Tuner.
“[Whitney] was like, ‘Yeah, I went through stuff, and what? Everybody goes through it,’” she said.
According to Jordin, even after having millions of records sold and being a “huge supernova diva,” Whitney was still very down to earth and taught her to keep her feet on the ground.
“She was so cool, and she was so chill. It was so amazing to be around her,” she said.
Jordin plays Whitney’s daughter, Sparkle Williams, in the 2012 remake of the 1976 classic. The two also have a duet together called “Celebrate,” which is the film’s lead single.
In promos for Sparkle, Jordin wears a form-fitting red dress, and although she’s shed 50 pounds since appearing on the scene as an "American Idol" contestant, she’s still working at maintaining her new physique.
"There is no secret," she told US magazine. "It’s just eating better and working out! It’s definitely a daily thing."
It seems to be working for Jordin, who recently appeared on the cover of Shape magazine in a bikini.
"I could only dream of having a cover and looking like that," she said. "I thought, ‘I did it!’ I had to walk back to my dressing room and I had to pull myself together because I was overwhelmed. I cried. I shed a little tear, but I’m really happy with how it turned out."
