From her messages to her style, Michelle Obama started off the 2012 Democratic National Convention with a bang.
The first lady blew the lid off of the Time Warner Cable Arena with a speech reminding everyone why she loves her hubby President Barack Obama so much and why she thinks he’s still a great leader for the country.
“After so many struggles and triumphs and moments that have tested my husband in ways I never could have imagined," said Michelle, who wore a two-tone Tracey Reese dress for her address to the delegates, “I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are. No, it reveals who you are.”
She added that Barack takes his mission as president to make education more affordable very seriously because he doesn’t want people to drown in debt just trying to go to school.
"Barack knows that like me and like so many of you, he never could’ve attended college without financial aid," said Michelle. "And believe it or not, when we were first married, our combined monthly student loan bills were actually higher than our mortgage. We were so young, so in love, and so in debt."
She added, "He wants every young person to fulfill their promise and be able to attend college without a mountain of debt."
That wasn’t the only anecdote about her relationship with Barack during the very personal-yet-on-message speech she gave on Tuesday night. Her address had such impact because she reminded the American people how the president identifies their stories because he’s lived a similar experience.
And, without even mentioning Mitt Romney’s name, she drew some sharp parallels between Barack and the GOP presidential candidate.
Not only did Michelle’s speech get the delegates in Charlotte fired up and ready to go, it struck a chord with Hollywood as celebs tweeted their applause for the first lady.
"FLOTUS speech #DNC2012 reminds us that @BarackObama isn’t detached from the needs of the middle class!" Oscar winner Octavia Spencer tweeted.
Chris Rock stated, "You know what, i don’t even care anymore, make Michelle Obama the President of the whole dam world. #DNC #FLOTUS"
Meanwhile Cedric the Entertainer floated out an interesting tidbit while congratulating Michelle as h tweeted, "The Queen @MichelleObama Ripped!! The DNC convention tonite, I believe that’s the same spot we taped Kings of Comedy! #I’mjusysay’n"
With such an amazing opening night former president Bill Clinton has a tough act to follow.
