Boris Kodjoe will revisit his Luther West character in Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the Resident Evil film series.
Boris, who portrayed the leader of a survivor group in the fourth installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife, rejoins co-stars Seinna Guillory, Shawn Roberts and Milla Jovovich. He described the experience as a family reunion.
“I love Milla and her husband [the film's writer-director, Paul W.S. Anderson]. They’re amazing. Our families have become really close,” he explained. “My boys Kevin Durand and Johann Urb, we go way back. I’ve known them for 16 years,” Boris added about his cronies who also star in the film. Fans will see another familiar face as Michelle Rodriguez also returns from the first installment.
While Boris’ fans know he can carry romantic dramas like Brown Sugar and "Soul Food," the actor told S2S his first appearance in the Evil franchise created new opportunities. “People understand that I can do action. It’s definitely added to the cache and opened up a door for more possibilities in action drama.”
Boris may know his way around an action movie set now, but the actor admits he wasn’t exposed to action films during his younger years.
“I grew up in Germany so a lot of the stuff I watched was French and Italian and German. It was a lot of comedy. We never really got the big blockbuster movies from overseas, but I came over here and was a big fan of those Die Hard movies.”
Resident Evil: Retribution hits theaters in 3D and IMAX 3D on September 14. You can also see Boris this fall in Nurse, a psychological thriller, also in 3D, about a caretaker who kills unfaithful husbands. He’ll also appear on the small screen in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” and is working on his directorial debut, Looking for Jimmy Lee, a romantic comedy starring his wife, Nicole Ari Parker.
