Mariah Carey refuted rumors that she’s beefin’ with fellow “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj.
“How are we gonna feud in two days? A feud takes a little longer to spread out,” Mariah told MTV News. “It’s fun. It’s music. It’s singing. It’s laughter,” she said about her first days taping the hit show.
Rumors that Mariah was unhappy about Nicki joining the judging panel spread before anything was made official. Mariah even tweeted a photo of her with rocker Lenny Kravitz. The caption read: “@AmericanIdol What’s going on? Need the info!! What about this combo? If we could ever get him to do it!” Many interpreted that as Mariah’s way of discouraging the show from bringing on Nicki, who is reportedly raking in $12 million for the gig.
According to some sources, Mariah’s behavior is proof that she’s none-too-pleased about sharing the judging duties with the Pink Friday artist.
“When Nicki started critiquing a contestant, Mariah would interrupt—not once, but many times. Each time Mariah interrupted, Nicki fought back by loudly talking over Mariah,” according to TMZ. “These girls just don’t like each other.”
While Mariah coyly dismissed the rumors of conflict, “Idol” regular Ryan Seacrest wasn’t so quick to assure the public that it’s all gossip.
“Nicki and Mariah—two very different, strong, powerful, successful women on the panel. There are not too many dull moments between the two of them, but at the end of the day, we all hug and go home,” he said on a morning talk show.
