Turks and Caicos Prime Minister Michael Misick has clocked out early.
The Associated Press reports that he decided to step down on March 24 so that his successor would have a bit more time to get a new government in place. Michael originally said he’d step down on March 31.
"I now announce that I will tender my resignation effective today as premier to allow the new PNP [Progressive National Party] party leader to become premier," Michael said during televised press conference on Tuesday.
Galmo Williams, who was elected to lead the PNP, will be taking over as Prime Minister of the Turks and Caicos.
Michael announced his resignation last month and said that he would not be seeking reelection. He said lack of support for his administration was a major deciding factor.
The former premier has been at the center of a Birtish corruption investigation where officials are looking into claims that he and others profited from the sale of government-owned land. A final report on the investigation is expected to be issued later this year.
Michael has also been going through a very public divorce with actress LisaRaye McCoy, who spoke with in the April/May 2009 issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine.
