South Africans better get ready to step in the name of love, because R. Kelly’s coming to their neck of the woods for the ARISE Africa Fashion Awards.
The awards ceremony and concert, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 20, will be the culmination of the first-ever ARISE Fashion Week. Kelz is using the show to kick off a global tour that will make stops throughout Africa and end in London. "I’m very excited about my first visit to Africa," R. Kelly said. "I’ve dreamed about this for a long time and its finally here. It will be one of the highlights of not only my career but my life. I can’t wait to perform in front of my fans in Africa – who have been some of the best in the world."
ARISE Fashion Week is being presented by ARISE magazine, a fashion, music and culture publication, and African Fashion International (AFI) in order to bring attention to the emerging arts and culture scene in the nation. Hometown designers will compete for the opportunity to have their work shown at the magazine’s show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York this September.
"The moment for Africa is upon us," said Nduka Obaigbena, the magazine’s founder. "At this time of global economic crisis, the people of Africa must turn disadvantage into opportunity and show the world that we are witnessing the first green shoots of the emerging African century. We have all it takes and we’re going for it!"
