Kelis has said she’s broke and she’s got the papers to prove it.
The singer is making her case for spousal support by filing her financial records, TMZ.com reports.
According to the documents, she averaged a monthly income of $21,616 between November of 2008 and this past April. While that might be more than enough for most of us to live on, Kelis states that that amount doesn’t even begin to begin to cover her monthly expenses.
Kelis, who is due to give birth this month, said she spends nearly $81,000 a month; that’s more than three and a half times what she’d been making. She said she pays $14,861 for her mortgage, and a nanny costs $3,500 every month. The “Bossy” singer also said she spends $15,000 to keep herself entertained every month.
Kelis is also looking for a little life insurance for her baby in the form of stem cells. Specifically, she wants to purchase "storage to bank the baby’s blood when he is born. The banking is the collection and storage of the stem cells found in the baby’s umbilical cord."
The singer said that most of her income is earned at concerts, but she hasn’t been on tour in a year. With a baby on the way, we’re pretty sure she won’t be getting her milkshake up on stage anytime soon, either.
