President Barack Obama was determined to do it up big in advance of his first Father’s Day in the White House. In addition to his personal note about the importance of the day, he invited lots of influential men out for a barbecue on the White House lawn last Friday, June 20. Any wonder why everyone’s still gaga over this man?
Among the attendees were NBA ballers Dwyane Wade and Alonzo Mourning, the presidents of Morehouse College and Motorola, plus local Washington young men. The Food Network’s resident grillmaster and host of "Boy Meets Grill," Bobby Flay, was there to BBQ the steaks and burgers everyone ate.
We spoke with one of the chefs working on the event and found out that the ribs were seasoned a few days prior to the event
Even though the holiday is over, it did kick off the official start of summer, where every clear Saturday is the perfect opportunity to throw some food on the grill. To make your next barbecue an even bigger success, check out these recipes from Bobby:
Grilled Chicken Wings with Spicy Chipotle Hot Sauce and Blue-Cheese Yogurt Dressing. You can’t get more traditional than hot wings on a summer day, and this recipe helps you do it in just a few minutes.
Chicken Cobb Burger. With grilled chicken, avocado and bacon, this burger is more like a club sandwich served on a fluffy bun. The cook time is almost 30 minutes, but that’s probably due to all the peeling, chopping and slicing you’ll do to the veggies.
Ginger-Soy-Lime Marinated Shrimp. Seafood is an excellent alternative to the traditional chicken, beef and pork that people normally grill. Bobby’s grilled shrimp is brimming with exotic layered flavors and cooks in just a few minutes.
