Mariah Carey will perform for thousands of Michael Jackson’s mourners at his public memorial tomorrow.
TMZ.com reports that Mimi may be singing the Jackson 5 standard, “I’ll Be There.”
Thousands of Michael’s fans are picking up their tickets and wristbands for Tuesday’s service, which starts at 10 A.M.
According to MTV News, more than 1.5 million of Michael’s fans registered for tickets to a service honoring him at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Announcements on who would be getting in were made Sunday. There had been false reports that the lottery announcement was being held off until today, but a the rep for the Jackson family said “nothing [had] changed.”
In all, 17,500 tickets are being offered to the public. Of those, only 11,000 fans (at most) will actually get to attend the memorial at the Staples, the rest of the will have to watch a simulcast of the event at the nearby Nokia Theater. The names of 8,750 attendees will be randomly drawn to receive two tickets.
Now, the selected fans are flocking to L.A. to pick up their two allotted tickets and the corresponding wristbands. It’s predicted that as many as 750, 000 people will be in the city for the event; officials are advising that anyone who didn’t get a ticket should just stay home.
But, if you didn’t get a ticket, several networks, including CNN, ABC and MSNBC, have announced that they will be covering the memorial live. E! will also be broadcasting the funeral on TV, and they’ll be streaming it on their Web site.
