Maxwell flies to #1

Maxwell has used his pretty wings to soar all the way to #1 with his new album.

After its much-anticipated release, BLACKsummers’night has topped the Billboard 200 chart for its debut.  That’s not surprising since people had been waiting to hear from Maxwell for seven years.

As soon as the album dropped last week, fans snatched copies of BLACKsummers’night off the shelves almost as soon stores could stock them. Seriously, it was a few days before we found a shop where the album wasn’t sold out.

So far, Maxwell sold 316,000 copies of his new album, Billboard.com reports.  Those are his best sales to date. Not too shabby considering he’s been gone for seven years, a hiatus that might have destroyed other artists.

This makes his second straight #1 album debut. Back in 2001 Now entered the charts in the top spot after selling 296,000 copies.

Find out what took Maxwell so long to get back into the studio when you pick up the August 2009 issue of Sister 2 Sister, on stands now.
