Ne-Yo is explaining what made him breakdown during a show in Manchester, England, this weekend.
We know that Ne-Yo stays on his grind all time, but doing so has left little time for himself. “Since my first album roughly five years ago, I’ve taken one vacation, and even that was about two years ago,” he explained in his blog on GlobalGrind.com.
Ok, we can see how a 24/7/365 work schedule might stress someone out, but when you add illness to the mix, it’s a recipe for disaster. The entertainer admitted to fans that he’d been dealing with a sinus infection for nearly a week leading up to this weekend’s performance.
“Basically, I have an issue with not knowing when to say enough is enough, so last night in Manchester, my body said it for me,” Ne-Yo wrote. “From the first song I knew something was wrong. I [should have] stopped there.”
However, the crooner held to the show biz doctrine that the show must go on, and he wanted to keep going. When he realized that he really needed to stop, it brought tears to his eyes.
“I’ve never had to stop a show, never dreamed I’d ever have to,” Ne-Yo said. “So when I had to walk out on that stage and tell 12,000 of the people responsible for making me who I am that I could not perform for them, it literally broke my heart. I cried harder than I have in a very long time with no shame whatsoever.”
And before he signed off, the singer-producer promised that he’d return to Manchester to give fans there the show they’d been waiting for.
We love that Ne-Yo is so dedicated to his music and his fans, but we understand that everyone needs a little time to decompress. Hopefully, he’s getting some much-needed rest now.
