Solange, who made headlines yesterday after photos surfaced on her rocking a baldy, took to her Twitter blog to air out her frustrations. All of the Twitter comments below are unedited.
"listen. if. i. wanted. to. make. a. statement. i. would. have. twitpic’d. photo shoot. ect. i. was. simply. taking. my. son. to. school," the singer wrote yesterday afternoon. "stupid. paps. took. pic. ive. had. my. hair. cut. like. this. for. two. weeks. i. was. NOT. inspired. by anyone. but. my. self."
Solo continued the period-ridden rant with, "i. have. done. this. twice. in. my. life. i. was 16. i was 18. did. not care about your opinion. then. dont. care. now."
She then waxed philosophical and opined that, "i. just. wanted. to. be. free. from. the. bondage. that. black. women sometimes. put. on. themselves. with. hair."
She wasn’t mad, she wrote, but wanted to address her status as the #3 trending topic on Twitter (Jay-Z, the Iranian Election and Harry Potter were also trending topics on July 23). "ONLY reason i responded to this i have is because i was disappointed to see my name more talked about then iran election."
The parade of folks that reacted to the photos of Solange and her fade also elicited a reaction from her playsister, LaLa Vasquez.
"Lots of tweets saying peeps giving my sis @solangeknowles shit about her hair?" she wrote on Twitter. "Did i hear that correctly..HAIR! LIVE & LET LIVE MAN."
The discussion also brought out the philosopher in LaLa because she continued with, "sumtimes we put 2much emphasis on the small, unimportant s**t in life…maybe i am late on the ‘hair’ talk but thats my family…yall gotta understand that."
