Welcome (back) to Atlanta

We’ve been waiting all year for the return of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and last night’s season premiere did not disappoint expectant fans.
If you’ve been following news on the ladies of Atlanta, then you know that Nene Leakes has moved to a new house.  The show started off with a trip to Nene’s place where the honorary sixth housewife, Dwight Eubanks, was dropping by to offer advice on the décor.  As always, their interaction was extremely entertaining. Somehow interior-decorating consultation turned into a lesson on how to open a bottle of Champagne and a private dance session.
    They’re such a mess!

Something we were really happy to see Thursday night was that Nene and Sheree Whitfield patched things up.
While we’re talking about Sheree, the new season found her in the middle of moving into a new home. It turns out that she was being evicted after the old house went into foreclosure because her ex-husband, Bob Whitfield, hadn’t been keeping up with his responsibilities.
“Bob had a court order to pay the mortgage and he never did,” Sheree explained. And those weren’t the only payments he’d been skipping either. “I haven’t received child support from Bob in 19 months. Bob’s never been active in these kids lives,” she said.
And the now-divorced mother of two decided that it was time to celebrate her newfound independence with a party.  To help her give her shindig some style, Sheree enlisted the help of a party planner named Anthony.
Things seemed to be going well on their first meeting as Anthony outlined his grand ideas for the party, like having a poet write a piece on Sheree, which she seemed to love!
“You’re the client so we want to make sure that we satisfy you and give you great service,” Anthony said at the end of their first planning session. Apparently that went right out the window the next the two of them met up.
We have no words for the fight that ensued, but we will say that Sheree definitely showed Anthony who’s boss! They popped off like somone reneged during a spades game!

And as Sheree’s family is shrinking Lisa Wu-Hartwell and her husband Ed were thing about expanding theirs.
“Ed is absolutely ready to have another child. I’m, of course, a little apprehensive,” Lisa said. For her age (she’s 38) plays a huge role in her hesitation, and she’s also got a very young son. “If I want to have more kids I have to get started now, but at the same time it’s like, ‘Do I have the energy?’”
Eventually, though, she and Ed agree that they definitely want another child. Those two are so cute we can’t stand it!
Lisa seems to get along with most of the other women on the show, but one wife who’s rubbed her the wrong way is Kim Zolciak.  Supposedly, during the off-season, Kim has been spreading rumors about the self-proclaimed energizer bunny, including that Lisa has a criminal record.
We know from last season’s reunion that Lisa was ready to “flip [Kim] over the couch” for telling stories. Thankfully, things didn’t get ugly when they all ran into each other at Niecy Nash’s birthday bash…mostly because Kim was dodging them the whole time she was there.

On Thursday night, viewers were finally introduced to Kandi Burruss, the newest wife.  Well… maybe wife-to-be would be the more accurate title since she is engaged to a man named AJ.
Most people will remember Kandi as a former member of Xscape, but she’s done so much more than many realize. After the group split up, she and Tiny (T.I.’s fiancée) started writing music together. Their partnership spawned TLC’s “No Scrubs” and “Bills, Bills, Bills” for Destiny’s Child. With songs like that, it should come as no surprise that Kandi is all about being self-sufficient. To aid that goal, she decided to invest in real estate.
But now, Kandi is returning to the booth and working on a solo album. She admits that a lot of her music has been inspired by her relationship with AJ. “I want to express what I’m feeling now. I want a lot of love songs,” she said.
And with the two planning to get married, she’ll be able to break a painful pattern in her family: a lot of the women in her life have been single mothers. “I really hate that I became part of the cycle,” Kandi shared.
One person who’s not so thrilled about the impending nuptials is Kandi’s mom, who has her reservations about AJ because he’s got six kids.

Will Kandi ever get her mother to the understanding side? We don’t know, but hopefully we’ll find out next Thursday when Bravo airs a new episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” at 10 p.m. EST.
