Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild and Joe all came out to celebrate legendary soul band Maze on August 6.
The band is being honored with tribute CD titled Silky Soul Music, which drops on August 25. The project is a compilation, highlighting Maze’s 40-year career.
To properly commemorate the CD, KLJH-FM threw a release party at the Highland nightclub in Hollywood last Thursday. The place was packed with fans who got the rare treat of hearing cuts from the album live. Joe kicked things off by singing his version of “Can’t Get Over You,” while Musiq did the title track.
But the high point of the night was Stevie doing a surprise performance of “Joy and Pain.” Lalah Hathaway also popped in to honor Maze as well.
Silky Soul Music also features tributes by Mary J. Blige, who belts out “Before I Let Go,” and Raheem DeVaughn, Kem and Ledisi. With a line up and material like that, we can’t wait for the album to hit shelves.
