The BMI Urban Awards hailed the talents of new artists while paying homage to the greats like George Clinton.
T-Pain and Lil’ Wayne scored the Songwriter of the Year Award while Polow Da Don and Kanye West took home the prize for Producer of the Year. Jordin Sparks snagged the award for Song of the Year for her duet with Chris Brown, “No Air.”
But the night concluded with an insane tribute to George Clinton, who was given the Icon Award last night.
The set included Cee-Lo Green performing “One Nation Under a Groove,” and Janelle Monae did “Flashlight.” The showstopper, though, was Bootsy Collins’ rendition of “Atomic Dog.”
