Kanye West is apologizing to Taylor Swift for stealing her shine at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video, beating out Beyoncé, Pink and Lady Gaga. This was Taylor’s first moonman ever, and what should have been a momentous occasion for the country singer was cut short when Kanye West.
Like many of us, ’Ye was shocked that Taylor beat out Bey, but unlike the rest of us, he decided Taylor’s acceptance speech was the perfect time to speak his mind.
If that wasn’t enough, MTV News reports that Kanye returned to his seat and flipped off the audience as they booed him. Shortly after that he was kicked out of the ceremony for his outburst.
Later on the awards show, Sasha did the ladylike thing and let Taylor back on stage for another shot at her acceptance speech. Hey, after “Single Ladies” won the Video of the Year, we’re sure Bey didn’t mind sharing the spotlight. If that’s not fierce, we don’t know what is.
And in all the fallout from his stunt, Kanye did offer up an apology on his blog, writing, “I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!”
“I’M IN THE WRONG FOR GOING ON STAGE AND TAKING AWAY FROM HER MOMENT! BEYONCE’S VIDEO WAS THE BEST OF THIS DECADE!!!!,” he continued. I’M NOT CRAZY YALL, I’M JUST REAL. SORRY FOR THAT!!! I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR TAYLOR AND I’M SINCERELY SORRY!!! MUCH RESPECT!!!!!”
