Mashonda challenges Alicia

Mashonda has sent a public letter to Alicia Keys about her relationship with Swizz Beatz.
The letter was in response to a question that Alicia asked her followers on Twitter Friday.
“Having a heated debate n the studio. Question is…N love is it better to go 4 the choice that is ‘SMART’ or the choice that has ‘SPARK’,” she tweeted.
Mashonda stated that she’d tried unsuccessfully to reach Alicia in other ways, but this is was the first time she’d tried using the micro blog.
“I’ve never reached out to her on twitter before. I feel our issues are a lot more serious than a website conversation,” Mashonda explained in her letter. She went on to talk about the first she met Alicia (Swizz introduced them) and the admiration she had for her as an artist.
Although Swizz’s estranged wife said she doesn’t blame Alicia solely for the break up of her marriage, Mashonda wasn’t letting the other songstresses entirely off the hook, either.
“If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage,” she stated. “You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create.”
But now that she and Swizz have filed for divorce, Mashonda called on Alicia to be civil about the situation. Chief amongst her concerns is that Alicia respect the fact that she will always be a part of Swizz’s life because their son. Now, she said she’s just trying to find a way for everyone to get along…or least tolerate each other.
Of course, Mashonda did want to answer Alicia’s initial question. “Choose smart over spark. Sparks burn everyone, be smart! Its simple actually, just think of the shoe being on the other foot,” she wrote in closing. “Stay blessed and lets work this thing out with respect and dignity.”
