Denzel Washington is leaving Hollywood to for the Great White Way.
This spring Denzel Washington will be returning to the theatre for the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Fences, the Associated Press reports.
The two-time Oscar winner will be playing the role of Troy Maxson. James Earl Jones played Troy 22 years ago; the original cast also included Mary Alice and Courtney B. Vance.
The rest of the cast for this April’s production of Fences has not yet been revealed. However, Denzel’s name alone will surely bring a crowd. This is not his first time on Broadway. In 2005, Denzel played Brutus in the revival of Julius Caesar.
Fences has won the Pulitzer Prize for drama the Tony Award for Best Play. It will be produced by Carole Shorenstein Hays and Scott Rudin and directed by Kenny Leon, and the theater will be announced at a later date.
