Nicole Richie will be returning to prime time television with the creation of her own sitcom.
The socialite announced the scripted project on her blog yesterday, writing, “I am so excited to announce that I am officially working on a television project!”
The half-hour comedy, which is still in its “very early stages,” is based on Nicole’s original concept, and it centers on a woman young professional woman who is trying to strike a balance between her work and home lives. “She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman’s role is: modern vs. traditional,” Nicole said of the show, which she’ll be starring in and producing.
Nicole credits the original idea for the sitcom to observations about the company she’s been keeping lately.
“Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life,” she stated. “It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman’s role should be in this era. I’ve taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!).”
According to Variety.com, the as-yet untitled show is being penned by Daisy Gardener, whose writing credits include Showtime’s “Californication.” The project is being produced through Sony pictures.
