Usher will be doing a few things around the house this week on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
The crooner will surprise Trina Scott and her three daughters by helping rebuild their home from the ground up. But this isn’t just your average, blink-and-you-miss-it cameo. Usher came to put in hard work for the ladies. He’ll be getting his hands dirty in the garden, and he’ll be cutting lumber to be used in the new house. In his own words, the new digs couldn’t have gone to “a more deserving family.”
Trina Scott lost her husband, a police officer named Dave, in the line of duty. He was out working with his partner in 2002 when a truck plowed into their car. Their vehicle spun out of control and struck a guardrail before bursting into flame. Both officers died almost immediately.
Since that tragic loss, Trina has dedicated her spare time to working with Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (C.O.P.S. for short), the organization that helped her own family when Dave died. In addition to that, she also holds down a full time job while raising her daughters, ages 17, 13 and 11.
“I can’t say that I’m a crier every time I watch. But this time I cried. They got me on camera crying. I couldn’t help it,” Usher told Fancast. “Here they had lost a husband and a father in the line of duty and they managed to still give back and find strength in doing it. Trina was incredible. So was the whole family. And I wanted to be a part of this effort.”
For more of Usher‘s good deed, watch ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on December 6 at 8 p.m. EST. And be sure to tune in next week when Mary J. Blige pops in to help another lucky family. Her episode airs Sunday, December 13, at 8 p.m. EST.
