VH1 picks up ‘Basketball Wives’

VH1 has given the green light to “Basketball Wives” a reality series starring Shaquille O’Neal’s estranged wife, Shaunie.
The network announced that it’s ordered eight 30-minute episodes of the show that takes a look inside the lives of NBA girlfriends, wives and exes.
Aside from Shaunie, who also acts executive producer for “Basketball Wives,” the show will also feature Jennifer Williams (Eric Williams’ wife), Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Evelyn Lozada (Antoine Walkerse ex-fiancée).
“This series will show viewers not only the glamorous side of being a celebrity wife but also the challenges and hard work that go with it," said Executive VP of Original Programming and Production Jeff Olde. "You only have to look as far as the nearest headlines to see what sort of pressure they are up against to keep their relationships and their families together.”

And Jeff’s words couldn’t ring more true for Shaunie since news of Shaq’s various affairs has been splashed across blog sites for weeks. However, the ladies of the NBA won’t be gracing your screen until next year because production on the show is set to begin this month. “Basketball Wives” is slated for a March 15 premiere.
“Having been around these remarkable women for several years, I have always recognized that behind every NBA star is a strong, exceptional woman, one who must deal with the unique challenges of being married to the game as well as the player.
It seems like Shaunie was going to end up on TV one way or another, because she and Shaq had just taped a pilot for a docuseries in on their home life for A&E just before she left him.
