Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals has died due to injuries he suffered during a serious accident.
Authorities told TMZ.com that the NFL wide receiver was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m. today. Chris was 26 when he died.
According to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the accident occurred late Wednesday morning after Chris jumped into the back of a pickup truck driven by his fiancée. WCPO reports that, he was trying to stop her from leaving a domestic situation at his North Carolina home. No details on that situation, or what lead up to it, have been released at this time.
CMPD said he got in the bed of the truck as his fiancée, Lolieni Tonga, was driving off of his property, and he fell out of the back at some point. He’d sustained grave injuries by the time police arrived at the scene of the accident, and emergency crews rushed him to Carolina’s Medical Center.
Homicide detectives are trying to whether or not Chris was thrown from the truck by his fiancée’s driving. TMZ reports that Loleini, who was taken in for questioning and later released, did not suffer any visible injuries from the accident.
