Bill Clinton released from NYC hospital

Former President Bill Clinton was in good spirits as he left a New York hospital this morning.

According to, Bill was smiling and waving during his exit from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was rushed to the facility Thursday afternoon after suffering of chest pains caused by a blocked artery.

CNN reports that the former president had two stents placed in his arteries. Dr. Sanjay Gupta said the surgery was classified as an emergency simply because it had to be done so quickly, but the operation is a fairly routine procedure.

Bill’s wife, Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton hurried to the hospital at news of his condition. She was joined by their daughter Chelsea, who was on hand as Bill was released “in excellent health” today.

It’s reported that the former commander-in-chief is now resting his Chappaqua, New York home, but he doesn’t want to be off his feet too long. According to a statement released Friday, "He looks forward in the days ahead to getting back to the work of his Foundation, and to Haiti relief and recovery efforts."
