Allen Iverson is leaving the game that made him famous to deal with a very personal issue.
A source from the NBA told SI.com that Allen has been given indefinite leave from the 76ers in order to let the baller take care of matters related to his ailing daughter Messiah’s health.
"At this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball," Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski said in a statement.
Details on Messiah’s illness have not been disclosed at this time.
Allen has already missed six games, including the 2010 All-Star game earlier this month that he was supposed to start in. There’s also word that the Sixers might be cutting him from the team altogether.
