Nas is finishing his high school education, and he’s encouraging students to stay in school.
Even with all his success in the music game, Nas still regrets dropping out, but he’ll soon correct that mistake, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The rapper revealed Sunday to a crowd gathered at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s annual National Keystone Conference that he will purse his high school diploma.
“The reality of it is, you need to keep educating yourself, and I wish I had stayed in school,” Nas advised the 900 high school students in the audience. “Be your own leader.”
Keystone Club Vice President Frank Sanchez hailed the message as an example that a high school education is crucial no matter what other achievements you’ve racked up in life.
"This is an incredible message, to have someone who succeeded so much in their life, but there is still a void," he explained.
And Nas has quite a few accolades under his belt, including four #1 albums and a Japanese doll modeled after his image. This weekend’s appearance also put him in good company with Ne-Yo and former NBA player Bob Lanier, who also spoke to students at the conference.
