Dwyane Wade’s divorce has just gotten a little nastier now that he’s requesting full custody of his kids.
The Associated Press reports that the Miami Heat guard filed for sole custody of his sons Wednesday, claiming that his estranged wife Siohvaughn Wade is no longer fit to take care of their boys.
The petition, which is more than 300 pages long, argues that she “has made it evident that she is unstable, dishonest, unbalanced, unwilling to accept responsibility for her actions, not of good character, and therefore, unfit to be a custodial parent."
D. Wade and his legal team have said that her alleged behavior has left the baller without options to successfully co-parent with his soon-to-be ex-wife.
"If he really wants to make sure that his children grow up in a healthy environment, he’s got to be the custodial parent for these children,” said Dwyane’s attorney, James Pritikin. “He’s the only one that can give them emotional stability and place their safety and health above all else."
According to court documents, Siohvaughn has displayed abusive and threatening behavior and carried on extramarital affairs. However the heart of Dwyane’s request for sole custody is the claim that she hasn’t let him spend time with their kids, ages 8 and 12.
"For more than two years, I have tried to make peace with Siohvaughn concerning our divorce and custody of our kids," D. Wade told the AP. "I no longer believe that’s possible. Siohvaughn has consistently attempted to interrupt or prevent me from having visitation time with our boys."
The petition will be submitted in court tomorrow.
This is just the latest shot in what has become a very public, contentious divorce. Dwyane and Siohvaughn separated in 2007. Since then, she’s charged that he gave her an STD due to him cheating throughout their marriage.
A trial in the divorce is slated to begin June 7.
