‘Dancing With the Stars’ recap: April 26

Couple: Niecy Nash & Louis van Amstel

    Dance: Argentine tango

Niecy has been shaking her tail feathers and jiggly parts at judges and viewers since the competition began. But this week presented a new challenge for the funny lady as she had to focus on her footwork for the Argentine tango.

“I’m giving my best part, but they don’t want that part,” Niecy said in a moment of revelation. “I’ve had a tough time controlling my feet, but if that’s what it takes to please the judges I’mma do it!”

But Niecy did get to stay in her comfort zone last night as Louis choreographed a comical routine. This is a departure from the typical Argentine tango, which is usually very tense as both dancers fight for control in the dance

We think Niecy found her niche with this performance, though. She may not be the best dancer out there on the floor, but she did much better this week than she has in the past. And Louis keeps showing the audience what he can do with a big girl through the lifts and tricks he pulls off with our girl.

“[It’s] nice to see you dancing,” judge Carrie-Ann Inaba said, adding that she could have done without the comedy because she felt the dance was fine on its own. “From last week to this week there was a new attitude in your body. …You were definitely in the zone.”

Judge Len Goodman liked that the routine went for some laughs. However, he felt Niecy and Louis’ Argentine tango “lacked some intensity.”
And Judge Bruno Tonioli echoed Len’s criticisms again this week, but he mentioned that there was a marked improvement in Niecy’s footwork.

That extra time focusing on the fundamentals seems to have paid off though, because Niecy came away with 21 points for the first half of the night. She and Louis picked up five more points during the swing dance marathon, putting their total score for the night at 26.
