‘Dancing With the Stars’ recap:

 May 3

Couple: Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke

    Dance: Vienesse Waltz

Although he got eights across the board last week, Chad seems to be cracking under the pressure to get his first 10 of the season. How do we know? He threw a mini-temper tantrum during practice.
Cheryl leveled with the audience, stating, “Chad wants to get 10s from the judges this week, but to do that he has to get his technique down.”
To help out the exasperated NFL player, Cheryl brought in Tony Dovolani to help Chad nail his technique. It’s not like Tony had anywhere else to be anyway since he and season 10 partner Kate Gosselin were booted from the ballroom a couple weeks ago.

Tony put a special touch in his instruction, teaching Chad by relating the moves to football. Smart move, Tony!

The extra instruction seemed to help Cad smooth out his moves a little more for the Vienesse waltz, which really requires him to be gentle. There were a few catches in his routine that we spotted, but overall, he did very well. His rises and falls were soft, but he still served as a firm base for Cheryl

Cheryl, who celebrated her birthday last night, couldn’t stop smiling throughout their dance. We wonder if it had anything to do with the ginormous diamond necklace he laced her with earlier in the day.

The judges were so pleased with the performance that they couldn’t help but gush about the NFL pro and his partner.

“Chad I can’t believe you can be so graceful and so gentle,” Bruno said before pointing out that he needed a little more work on his arms.

Carrie Ann agreed with Bruno, saying that Chad needed to remain aware of his arms, but “I have to say, there’s nothing sexier than watching a man find out how to be tender.”
Len, however, thought Chad’s arms “were full of fluidity,” adding that Chad truly became a contender for the mirrorball on Monday. With critiques like that, we were a bit surprised that he only got 25 points. Chad and Cheryl got a boost in their score with 27 additional points, putting their final tally at 52 for the night.

Find out if that score was enough to keep Chad out of the bottom three tonight when ABC airs “Dancing With the Stars: the Results” at 8 p.m. EST.
