Fela! and Fences lead the pack of nominees for the 2010 Tony Awards.

Fela!, based on the life of Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, has been generating buzz since before it hit Broadway. With the likes of Jay-Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith backing this show, the show already packed major star power behind the scenes.

However, it’s what the cast brought to the stage that earned the musical 11 Tony nominations. Fela! is up for Best Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor and Best Direction of a Musical, just to name a few.

Fences is right behind Fela! in the nomination tally with 10 Tony nods.  The play starring Denzel Washing and Viola Davis, has been nominated for Best Revival of a Play, Best Costume Design and Best Direction of Play. Both Denzel and Viola have been recognized for their outstanding work on stage. He’s up for Best Performance by a Leading Actor, and she’s been nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress.

To see who takes home a statuette. Tune in to the Tony Awards when it airs Sunday June 13 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
