Steve Harvey collects for kids

Steve Harvey held a black-tie affair last night in New York to support young Black men.

Steve and Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America” hosted the premier Steve Harvey Foundation Gala at Cipriani Restaurant. The event was a fundraiser for his mentoring weekends, which are aimed at guiding young Black men down the right path.

Steve has already been doing an on-air drive during his morning radio show to fund the weekends, attempting to raise the $1 million required to make his vision a reality. Monday’s gala was a new approach at earning the money, but Steve doesn’t take credit for the event.
“The gala was my wife’s idea,” Steve admitted. “She’s gone to them before and tried to drag me along, so she told me it was the appropriate thing to do. I just kind of took her lead on this one.”
Steve’s wife, Marjorie, was a vision in her Valentino Couture gown. She hopes to follow in her hubby’s footsteps by creating a similar program of her own.
“My husband does the mentoring weekend for the boys, and I wanted to do something for the girls as well,” said Marjorie. “We’re going to do it this year.”
The fundraiser wasn’t all about the kids, though. The gala was also held to honor Denzel Washington, Geoffrey Canada and Pam El for the things they’ve done for the Black community.

However, keeping the original purpose of the gala in mind, Denzel and his wife, Pauletta, surprised Steve with a generous donation of $1 million.
