Michelle Obama is yet again investing in America’s future by touting the benefits of being a mentor.

The first lady flew to Detroit today for a luncheon to encourage more adults to mentor young kids and teens in their area. During her speech at the Detroit Institute of Arts, she also advised youth to find a mentor of their own.

The appearance, where she was greeted by a standing ovation from students, was part of Michelle’s first co-ed mentoring event.

Helping Michelle lead by example were Spike Lee, Kimberly Locke and Magic Johnson. Also among the celebrity mentors in attendance were Attorney General Eric Holder, Congressman John Conyers and Susan Taylor, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, Essence magazine and founder of the National CARES Mentoring Movement.

"We are all here because we believe in you," Michelle told students in attendance, pointing out that many of the celebrities joining her in Motown came from humble backgrounds themselves.
