The sequel to Sex and the City is showing eager audiences what a difference two years makes in the lives of Carrie Bradshaw and her girlfriends.
Looks like Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) have finally found men to put a ring on it and turn the New York socialites from single ladies into the loving wives. Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) can never be tamed, so she’s still happily single.
Moet and the Boutique Agency held a private screening of Sex and the City 2 this week in Washington, D.C., one of only three in the country. The fanfare was just as expected, ladies draped in high fashion pieces accompanied by their closest female friends filled theaters, ready to see what the four New York "it girls" were up too.
Surprisingly, Sex and the City 2 is not what anyone would expect. After Carrie was stood up at the altar, Miranda contemplating divorce and Samantha splitting up with her gorgeous beau, Smith Jerrod, in the original, you would think that love would be the last thing on these ladies minds.
As we saw, two years have made a big differences. Not only are the ladies still dressed up in love, but the focus has changed from a Friday night date to changing pampers and maintaining a happy marriage. Mr. Big (Chris Noth) is back, as are Miranda’s husband Steve (David Eigenberg) Charlotte’s prince charming Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler). Super-stylist to the stars Patricia Field did not disappoint on this project. The fashion is over the top and so beyond anything someone in 2010 could image.
While Sex and the City 2 is loaded with laughs, sex (duh!) and designer shoes, it comes off as an extended episode of the HBO series rather than a silver screen production. Maybe Director Michael King wants the every day feel but there are definitely dry spots.
Overall, the film is a must-see. The storyline is unexpected and full of juice; and even though it has an extra-long run time, every minute is worth watching. Keep an eye on Samantha, because this time around she has shaken off her quest for love and returned to the sex-crazed vixen we love to watch!
Sex in the City 2 is in theaters nationwide today!
