‘Fences’ stars win at Tonys

Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, won big at the 2010 Tony Awards last night.
Denzel took home the Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Man in a Play for his starring role in Fences. Co-star Viola, who was a vision in lime green, snagged the Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.
Fences, which also won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play, has been drawing praise from audiences and critics alike since it hit Broadway in April. You can catch Denzel’s Tony winning performance as Troy Maxson through mid-July.
Although it lost Best Musical to Memphis, Fela! didn’t do too badly for itself, either! Director Bill T. Jones won the Tony for Best Choreography.

Fela! also earned the prize for Best Costume Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical. On hand for Fela’s award presentation was show producer Jay-Z, who brought his wife Beyoncé along as his date. Co-producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smit were also there.
