Russell Simmons brings laughs to The El Rey

Russell Simmons is gearing up to get back into the comedy game with his new series, set to premiere next month.

Comedy Central has announced that “Russell Simmons Presents Stand-Up at The El Rey” will debut July 11 at 11 p.m. EST/PST. The series, featuring six 30-minute episodes, will make its debut with two back-to-back episodes.

JB Smoove will greet the audience and keep each episode moving as the show’s host. During the premiere, viewers can expect to hear him crack jokes about “raggedy” clubs before introducing Tony Roberts and Donte Nero.

“Stand-Up at The El Rey” will have the familiar hip-hop vibe of “Def Comedy Jam,” but we assume it will probably be cleaned up for network television. Jokes.com will tease each episode online with exclusive backstage clips and preview footage.
