Jennifer Williams of “Basketball Wives” thinks the first season of the VH1 reality series didn’t live up to her expectations.
When the news broke that Shaq’s estranged wife Shaunie O’Neal was bringing cameras into the homes of NBA stars to follow their wifeys around, the stars thought they were signing on to dispel the myths surrounding NBA wives.
Jennifer Williams, wife of retired NBA player Eric Williams, thought she would get to show the world that some wives do more than spend their husbands’ money all day. But she admits that the show didn’t deliver. To us, it looked like they spent a lot of time socializing and stressing over groupies.
“I feel like they’ve been focusing more on drama,” Jennifer told S2S. She spent a lot of her time on camera organizing a charity event and looking for a location for her business. “I actually sent a producer an email [asking] ‘When are they going to show some of this stuff?’”
The show was still running when we spoke, so she had hopes that the drama-free footage would air and give her a break. “On Sundays, I’m just prepared for an argument,” she said, referring to Eric’s response to the show’s girl talk. “I understand drama sells, but at the same time it’s like, that’s not all that we did for that eight weeks.”
Well, Gloria Govan surely did more than we saw and her hubby, Matt Barnes, was pretty heated about her representation on the show. After the final episode aired, Matt Tweeted that Shaunie should be ashamed of herself for the way she treated Gloria on the show.
When asked whether Gloria, who skipped the reunion, would be back next season, Shaunie nearly shouted “No!” The feeling is definitely mutual as Gloria has expressed no interest in signing on for round two “Basketball Wives.”
VH1 said that a couple of new women will join the cast. As for Jennifer, she’s definitely coming back.
